Anime Facts: Where are they from?

Animes are usually based on 3 main things.(At least what I can currently think of)

1. There are anime originals that is just exclusive only to the anime, not based from anything else like mangas. These usually have a proper endings.

Ano Natsu the Matteru is one example of this.

Highly recommended to watch.

2. There are also animes based on games.

The games that turns in to anime are usually very good and very successful majority of the times.

Persona 4 the Animation is a big example.

Little on Persona 4:
It was originally an JRPG game for the Playstation 2 that came out in 2008.
It became a huge hit just like the previous Persona games.
Currently there is Persona 4 Golden for the PS Vita which is Persona 4 with extra content.

OH SHIT I CANT BELIEVE I FORGOT POKEMON.

3. Finally, there are books(or from reading)
By this, I mean manga, light novels, adult visual novels and all that crap

I'm going to have to divide this up into more sections

3.1 Manga
One piece, Naruto, Fairy Tale, Blue Exorcist, Attack on Titan, etc
These are all first a manga then developed into an Anime.

3.2 Adult Visual Novels
(I added adult because the majority is ecchi so)
People call them visual novels because they are basically novels with cgs and pictures.

You can't buy these as a book but they are a computer software you install and play.
In Japan(actually even in english world as well) this is an adult game basically.
This category is a category little hard to explain so please understand my lack of explanation.

Fate stay night, Clannad, Ef tales of memories,
School Days(JESUS DONT EVER WATCH THIS) Little Busters!!, and lot more

Fate franchise is personally one of my favorites with Fate Extra for the psp,
Fate Zero, etc.

3.3  Light Novels

And finally, this is probably the area where most anime is based off these days.

Light novels are basically another genre of books where it's short majority of the times and it's a easy read. (it's 20000 words or under they say)

Light novels coming out these days are usually male targeted, like harems and shit.

Not all of them are like that though.

Most light novel topics are futuristic, funny, romantic and very relaxing to read.

The very loved popular series Sword Art Online is originally a light novel and it is currently on their 12th book in the series.

Not sure about other app stores, but in the japanese app store for apple products, there are light novel and manga apps all over the place.

One of the apps by publishers of the light novels and comics, MF light novels and comics
MF ライトノベル コミック

It is very unfortunate that these aren't as popular as mangas to English readers.
There are actually a few translated and published but you probably can't find them in the local book stores. Ordering them online would be a good idea if you want them.
Here's the link to the current light novels that are translated to English. (Ones in Bold)
